I’m wrapping up my reading the book of Numbers and there are certain themes that stand out. I’m recounting them before I leave this book. There was the recurring theme of boundaries. See previous posts. Today’s theme is inheritance. God gave the Israelites a very specific inheritance. He chose it for them. He guided them to it. He provided it. He put up with them. What a mess of a people. What a God! He does so for the believer. It’s quite wonderful!
We have obtained an INHERITANCE,
having been predestined according to His purpose
who works all things after the counsel of His will,
to the end that we who were the first to hope in Christ
would be to the praise of His glory.
Giving thanks to the Father,
who has qualified us to
share in the INHERITANCE of the saints in Light.
Knowing that from the Lord
you will receive the reward of the INHERITANCE.
It is the Lord Christ whom you serve.
By faith Abraham,
when he was called,
obeyed by going out to a place
which he was to receive for an INHERITANCE;
and he went out, not knowing where he was going.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
who according to His great mercy
has caused us to be born again to a living hope
through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
to obtain an INHERITANCE
which is imperishable
and will not fade away,
reserved in heaven for you,
who are protected by the power of God
through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed
in the last time.
In this you greatly rejoice,
even though now for a little while, if necessary,
you have been distressed by various trials,
so that the proof of your faith,
being more precious than gold which is perishable,
even though tested by fire,
may be found to result in praise and glory and honor
at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
and though you have not seen Him,
you love Him,
and though you do not see Him now,
but believe in Him,
you greatly rejoice
with joy inexpressible and full of glory,
obtaining as the outcome of your faith
the salvation of your souls.
1 Peter 1:3-9
Believers have an INHERITANCE all because of the work of Christ. It has been bought with precious blood and is waiting for us! He has done all the work. He will get us there. Yes, we are a mess. But He is wonderful!
Is this your INHERITANCE? Then you can say with the Psalmist,
“The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places;
Indeed, my heritage is beautiful to me.”
More than anything I would like to encourage you in your walk with God!
