There were three encouragements in today’s reading of 1 Samuel 30.
First, when everything was against David, he knew what to do.
But David strengthened himself in the LORD his God. 1 Samuel 30:6
David was in an overwhelming crisis. Everything he loved was taken away. He knew there was no one else to go to for comfort but God. This is a lesson for us to learn. Do you need comfort? Strengthen yourself in the Lord today! Seek His face in the Word. So many things look like they may comfort you, but they cannot!
Next, he didn’t rush into his own plans. He sought the will of God. Maybe he was learning his lessons! His own plans weren’t working out so well. Seek the Lord’s will!
David inquired of the LORD, saying, "Shall I pursue this band? Shall I overtake them?" And He said to him, "Pursue, for you will surely overtake them, and you will surely rescue all." 1 Samuel 30:8
There is one more thing I really love in this chapter. David went after the enemy and won the victory! Everyone reaped the reward of the battle. Those who fought, and those who remained behind.
"For as his share is who goes down to the battle, so shall his share be who stays by the baggage; they shall share alike." 1 Samuel 30:24
I love that! For years I stood by the baggage and cared for Mumsy as Craig went out speaking and sharing the gospel. But I got to share in the rewards as much as he. I stayed by the baggage and prayed. I got the reward. I love it! Hey you! If you are is a stage of life where you can’t go fight, know that you have a job to remain by the baggage and be faithful and pray. Your reward is great!
(Yesterday I found this picture of Mumsy and me in 2007. Awwww... I miss her! Good memories. I don't know if you can see it, but she had fallen and had a black eye. Whew! That wasn't a good memory! She's not falling anymore.)
I am so encouraged today. I hope you are too!
More than anything I would like to encourage you in your walk with God!
