Why have you despised the word of the LORD by doing evil in His sight? You have struck down Uriah the Hittite with the sword, have taken his wife to be your wife, and have killed him with the sword of the sons of Ammon. Now therefore, the sword shall never depart from your house, because you have despised Me and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.
David despised the Lord when he sinned. Despise means to not value something. When David sinned and when we sin we discount God. We probably wouldn’t say this out loud, but we are saying, “I despise God!”
I want to remember this when I want my own way. Do I really want to despise God? It reminded me of this verse.
Those who honor me I will honor,
and those who despise me shall be lightly esteemed.
1 Samuel 2:30
