Now there was a famine in the days of David for three years, year after year.
The description of the famine struck me today. Three years… year after year. The tediousness of year after year! I can imagine hoping for the end. So many people in the Bible who were in famine didn’t do what David did here. They went where the food was. Makes sense right? No food… go to the food. The problem in those other cases was they should have sought the Lord. They should have waited on the Lord.
This is another reminder that when trouble comes and remains year after year, our goal should be to seek the Lord, not the solution to the trial. I love that! It’s just not the natural way of thinking. God gave the answer. It wasn’t easy. You’ll have to read it. The famine came because the people broke their promise. “Time does not dull God's memory or His sense of justice.” I find comfort in that. God had an answer and it would never have been what David knew… that’s why he sought the Lord.
Such a good reminder today. Seek the Lord in everything! What does He say about your situation? What is His word on the subject?
A friend shared this verse with me last night. So good!
Trust in the LORD with all your heart,
More than anything I would like to encourage you in your walk with God!
