I started reading 1 Kings today. What always impresses me about David’s life is that it didn’t get easier at the end. David went out with great problems in his family and in his kingdom.
I used to think God’s servants would end life calmly and sweetly. It would be all roses and happiness. All the lose ends tied. A beautiful exit on a high note. It’s just not like that. I observed in my own dad’s life troubles and persecution right to the end. At that time I wondered and asked the Lord about it. He reminded me of David’s life.
Today in thinking this over again I was reminded of 1 Peter 1:6-9. I love this reminder.
In this you rejoice,
A few observations:
Trials are just for a little while.
Trials are necessary.
Trials are grievous.
Trials come in various sizes.
Trials test the genuineness of faith.
Trials are testing like fire.
Trials that prove us result in praise and glory and honor when we see Jesus!
Trials end at the revelation of Jesus Christ!
Trials draw out my love of Jesus.
Trials cause me to look forward and rejoice that there is an end,
the salvation of my soul!
So friend, no matter where you are in life, at the beginning, in the middle, or at the end... press on for God! Keep the prize before your eyes! Jesus! The salvation of our souls!
More than anything I would like to encourage you in your walk with God!
