Citizens!

But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one.
Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God,
for he has prepared for them a city. Hebrews 11:16
Yesterday I went to a new citizen swearing in ceremony. The ceremony is quite moving. I feel all patriotic when it’s done. It’s still a wonderful thing to live in this country. But I’m longing for the Better Country… that is Heavenly one. So today I’m singing...
This world is not my home, I'm just a passing thru,
My treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue;
The angels beckon me from Heaven's open door,
And I can't feel at home in this world anymore.

O Lord, you know I have no friend like you,
If Heaven's not my home, then Lord what will I do?
The angels beckon me from Heaven's open door,
And I can't feel at home in this world anymore.

They're all expecting me, and that's one thing I know,
My Savior pardoned me and now I onward go;
I know He'll take me thru tho I am weak and poor,
And I can't feel at home in this world anymore.

I have a loving mother up in glory-land,
I don't expect to stop until I shake her hand;
She's waiting now for me in Heaven's open door,
And I can't feel at home in this world anymore.

Just up in glory-land we'll live eternally,
The saints on ev'ry hand are shouting victory,
Their songs of sweetest praise drift back from Heaven's shore,
And I can't feel at home in this world anymore.

I love the verse about a loving mother.  I’m going to be hugging her not shaking her hand. It makes me laugh. But what impresses me is the focus and goal of the song… heaven is our home! Are you a citizen of heaven because of the work of Christ? If so, your treasure should be laid up there, not here. Let’s remind ourselves to live for heaven, not earth! Let's eagerly wait for the Savior! Ah, what a day that will be!
For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ; who will transform the body of our humble state into conformity with the body of His glory, by the exertion of the power that He has even to subject all things to Himself.
Philippians 3:20, 21
