All the people perceived the thunder and the lightning flashes and the sound of the trumpet and the mountain smoking; and when the people saw it, they trembled and stood at a distance. Exodus 20:18
My lesson for Sunday School is so striking, I’m meditating on it this morning. God spoke to the children of Israel in an awesome setting. It was so terrifying that Moses was full of fear and trembling. Moses! Before hearing God speak, the people had to prepare. They had to wash themselves. They had to put a fence around the mountain so no one could approach. It reminded me of the passage in Hebrews quoted above.
A few thoughts.
We don’t come to that terrifying setting. Did you notice the contrast in Hebrews?
But God is the same! Our God is a consuming fire.
What should we do? Show gratitude! Offer acceptable service with reverence and awe.
I’m going to remember the Lord Jesus this morning and show Him gratitude! I’m thankful for the work He did at the cross! I’m thankful for a kingdom that cannot be shaken! I'm going to serve Him with reverence and awe. I look forward to that day when I see the realities spoken of in Hebrews. Can't wait!
More than anything I would like to encourage you in your walk with God!
