In Matthew 6 Jesus is talking about living to please God. He addresses some important subjects in this chapter but a few verses jumped out at me today as a wonderful reminder of how to live for God and have a life that counts!
Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth,
The things I treasure grip my heart! Did you see that in verse 21?
My life revolves around my treasures. I invest in them. I live them. I love them.
So the question I asked myself today is, what am I treasuring or valuing? If it’s an earthly treasure, that’s a bad investment! Craig and I are redoing our bathroom right now. We have to replace rusted pipes and things that have decayed. It’s a great reminder that any love on earth is temporary and will wear out and waste away. That’s not a good investment!
On the other hand, I have the privilege of loving what God loves and investing in His things! That is an eternal investment that won’t wear out! I can’t help but think of my daddy today. He lived this! As he poured out his life for the Lord, he would tell me he was sending his treasure up ahead of him. He was investing in the bank of heaven. That’s what I want to do! I want eternal reward so I can give it back to the One who gave it all for me. (Revelation 4:10,11)
What a good reminder not to get caught up in the world’s traps and loves that are temporary, but rather store up my treasure in heaven!
But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness,
Thank you, Lord, for this reminder! Help me to love what You love and invest in the Bank of Heaven!
More than anything I would like to encourage you in your walk with God!
