Today I read about Israel crossing the Jordan River
Before: Joshua 3:17
"And the priests who carried the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm on dry ground in the middle of the Jordan while all Israel crossed on dry ground, until all the nation had FINISHED crossing the Jordan."
After: Joshua 4:1
"Now when all the nation had FINISHED crossing the Jordan, the LORD spoke to Joshua…"
The last verse of chapter three observes, "the nation finished crossing," and the first verse of chapter four says, "when they finished the Lord spoke"! The Lord speaks to obedient children. Obedience is the key to intimacy with God. This is true for every period in the history of God's people, even today.
Obedience is not easy. Israel needed to step into death in the raging flood waters of the Jordan. If God had not parted the flood waters, they would have died. The east side of obedience was really hard, but the west side of obedience was impossible! When they successfully crossed the Jordan, their safe distance from the enemy was gone forever. Their new ground of obedience placed them exposed to the enemy, with no defense but God. They would be not standing on a mountain. There would be no river between them and their enemy. Their faith in God put them in great need of faith in God.
"He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will disclose Myself to him."
For me to live is Christ.
