Joshua 4:3-7 "Take up for yourselves twelve stones from here out of the middle of the Jordan, from the place where the priests' feet are standing firm, and carry them over with you and lay them down in the lodging place where you will lodge tonight…When your children ask later, saying, 'What do these stones mean to you?' then you shall say to them, 'Because the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD; when it crossed the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off.' So these stones shall become a memorial to the sons of Israel forever."
Cross the Jordan!
In the Red Sea, the Jews died to Egypt and lived to Moses. In the Jordan River, the Jews counted themselves dead to the past rebellion of the wilderness and counted themselves alive to God in Canaan.
The Christian Red Sea is the death of Christ. We die forever in the death of Christ. The Christian Red Sea is also the resurrection of Christ. We live forever in the resurrection of Christ. Christians also have a Jordan River. No one repeats the Red Sea. We cannot die again and live again; but in our Jordan, we count the old self dead to sin, dead to rebellion, dead to the voice of the old self; and we count the new self alive to God! In the Jordan River, we stand and act and purpose to live on the facts of Red Sea.
Today you may struggle with your own sin and rebellion. Bury that sin and rebellion in the Jordan River. Count yourself deaf and dead to the voice of the old self inside of you. Leave one stone as a grave marker in the Jordan where it will never be seen again, not by you, not by anyone. Carry one stone as a memorial marker and place it where you live. Visit the memorial often, and say, "This marks my victory over _______ ."
Mark your crossing!
For me to live is Christ.
