"She [Rahab] said to them [the spies], 'Go to the hill country, so that the pursuers will not happen upon you, and hide yourselves there for three days until the pursuers return. Then afterward you may go on your way.'"
When Rahab hid Israel's spies, she sent them west, farther from their camp to hide in Jericho's mountains. They hid in the mountains and caves for three days and then traveled east to the safety of their own camp across the Jordan.
"I will lift up my eyes to the mountains;
From where shall my help come?
My help comes from the LORD,
Who made heaven and earth."
King David hid in many of Israel's mountains, but he learned that the mountains were not safe. He looked above the mountain to heaven, and he looked beyond heaven to God who made both the mountains and heavens. When he hid in the Lord, he was safe.
"Then the kings of the earth and the great men and the commanders and the rich and the strong and every slave and free man hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains; and they said to the mountains and to the rocks, 'Fall on us and hide us from the presence of Him who sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb; for the great day of their wrath has come, and who is able to stand?'"
In a future day every hiding place will surrender to God. The only hiding place that is safe is the Lamb of God, Lord Jesus Christ. Do not hide from the Lord Jesus. Hide in the Lord Jesus. He will make you safe for now and eternity.
Where is your hiding place?
For me to live is Christ.
