But you shall remember that you were a SLAVE in Egypt,
and that the LORD your God REDEEMED you from there;
therefore I am commanding you to do this thing.
Remembering is the key to the Christian life. Israel's obedience hinged on remembering.
Remember your slavery in Egypt. God saved you out of a terrible slavery. He saved you out of an awful pit. Never think or say, "I was not that bad." It's not true. You were that bad, and your sin demanded your eternal punishment. Don't forget. Call it to mind and remember the trap that held you fast.
Remember also that the Lord redeemed you from that death. The blood of His Son Jesus paid to purchase a slave. His blood also paid to make you a son and seat you in the heavenly places in Christ. God's redemption was a payment that exceeded your liability. The redemption of God is the measure of the depth of your own sin, and also the measure of the height and depth and breadth of the love of God.
Remember is the key. Remember is a commandment.
For me to live is Christ.
