I am reading 1 Samuel. These verses have been life-molding verses for me over the years that I have been saved.
1 Samuel 2:29-30
"Why do you kick at My sacrifice and at My offering which I have commanded in My dwelling, and honor your sons above Me, by making yourselves fat with the choicest of every offering of My people Israel?"
Therefore the LORD God of Israel declares, "I did indeed say that your house and the house of your father should walk before Me forever, but now the LORD declares, "Far be it from Me--for those who honor Me I will honor, and those who despise Me will be lightly esteemed. "
Good verses. "Those who honor Me I will honor, and those who despise Me will be lightly esteemed."
God recorded a principle here. If we honor God (consider Him valuable, show He is valuable in our obedience and by putting Him first), God will honor us. The opposite is true also. If we treat God like we can take Him or leave Him, then He will treat us with the same attitude.
When I say, "It is too hard; It is too embarrassing; or I really really don't want to do it," I consider this verse. It comes to mind. Honor God and trust God to honor you. Or I say, "Obey God and let the chips fall where they will." God can sort out the wreckage and make it beautiful. Trust God with the consequences of obedience.
Trust Him with your good name.
For me to live is Christ.
