Then David said to himself, "Now I will perish one day by the hand of Saul.
1 Samuel 27:1
The pressure of constantly running from place to place one step ahead of death finally took its toll on David. In spite of the Lord's miraculous care for him, David's faith wavered… Present danger often obscures the promises of God.
David ran away from Saul to the land of the Philistines for sixteen months. David trusted God for sixteen months of warfare with the enemies of Israel, but he had lost his confidence in God to protect him from his own people.
And Jesus said to him, "Friend, do what you have come for."
The behavior of Jesus is different. Instead of running from his friend the enemy, he ran to him and allowed himself to be seized and put to death. Jesus also said, "I will perish one day." Had Jesus saved His own life, we would have lost ours. Thanks be to God that the trust of the Lord Jesus in the plan of his Father never failed! For Jesus the goal was never obscured.
For me to live is Christ.
