Q: What do Jonathan, Epaphroditus and the Lord all have in common?
A: They are encouragers!
Now David became aware that Saul had come out to seek his life ...
1 Samuel 23:15-16
At my first defense no one supported me,
2 Timothy 4:16-17
Jonathan risked his life to encourage David. He encouraged David in God. He encouraged him with God's word. Epaphroditus ministered encouragement to Paul in the New Testament, just like Jonathan ministered encouragement to David in the Old Testament. David was encouraged; Paul was encouraged; and God noted their ministry of encouragement in His book. God also noted that both men did this at a great risk to their own lives.
For God is not unjust so as to forget your work
There is a great need today for you to be an encourager.
There are also times when human encouragement is impossible. Maybe a brother or sister is unavailable or maybe they are unwilling. Paul discovered that in times when the encouragement of men failed, God Himself stood with him and encouraged him. One of the names of God is the Encourager.
When you are reduced to nothing but God, you have everything; and what you do have cannot be taken away.
For me to live is Christ.
