2 Samuel 18:33
The king was deeply moved and went up to the chamber over the gate and wept. And thus he said as he walked, "O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! Would I had died instead of you, O Absalom, my son, my son!"
David could discipline his sheep, he could discipline his army, he could discipline his nation, but he could not discipline his own sons; and he never did. One of the requirements for an elder in the New Testament church is that a man must discipline his children.
1 Timothy 3:4-5
He must be one who manages his own household well, keeping his children under control with all dignity (but if a man does not know how to manage his own household, how will he take care of the church of God?).
The standards for church leadership are greater than the standards for the kings of Israel. One of the best preparations for leadership in the church is being a good parent. A man can lead a church without a degree from a Bible school or seminary, but he cannot lead without training in the home.
For me to live is Christ.
