1 Kings 1:5-6
Now Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, "I will be king." So he prepared for himself chariots and horsemen with fifty men to run before him. His father had never crossed him at any time by asking, "Why have you done so?" And he was also a very handsome man, and he was born after Absalom.
Adonijah thought very highly of himself. Even in the church, there are many "Adonijahs"--men and women who think very highly of themselves.
For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think…
Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves.
Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself…
Today, empty your handsome self of everything but Christ. Begin your day by removing the Adonijah from the throne of your heart, and giving the seat to Christ.
For me to live is Christ.
