1 Kings 14:6
When Ahijah [the prophet] heard the sound of her [the king's wife] feet coming in the doorway, he said, "Come in, wife of Jeroboam, why do you pretend to be another woman? For I am sent to you with a harsh message."
The king of Israel disguised his wife and sent her to the prophet for help.
Q: Why did the king not go to the prophet himself?
A: Because he was ashamed of his sinful life.
Q: Why did they go to the prophet to hear the word of God if they did not want the word of God?
A: Even people living outside of the truth can know that their only real help is in the truth of the word of God.
Q: Why the disguise?
A: This couple wanted God's help, but they did not want God's rules for their lives.
Wow! How many people today want God's help and God's blessing, with no intention of keeping God's rules? Are you smarter than God? Do you think you can trick God into blessing your disobedience? God cannot be tricked. God cannot be divided into His blessing part and His rules part. God is not a dysfunctional parent. He is a perfect Father.
So what happened? God disciplined this couple first with sickness, then with death. Did they then turn to God and confess their sins? No, they did not. The story has a sad ending for them, but a hopeful ending for us. God promises a better ending for us if we judge our own sin before God judges our sin.
1 Corinthians 11:31-32
But if we judged ourselves rightly, we would not be judged. But when we are judged, we are disciplined by the Lord so that we will not be condemned along with the world.
God is good. His blessing is good. His rules are good. He is 100% good and more.
For me to live is Christ.
