Then Solomon formed a marriage alliance with Pharaoh king of Egypt, and took Pharaoh's daughter and brought her to the city of David…Now Solomon loved the LORD, walking in the statutes of his father David, EXCEPT he sacrificed and burned incense on the high places.
1 Kings 3:1-3
The seeds of failure are sown into the foundations of Solomon's rule.
Each time I read this is say, "No! Don't do that!" But Solomon doesn't listen to me. If Solomon won't listen to me, maybe I should listen to me.
At the beginning of your life, of your school year, of your marriage, of your whatever; check your foundations. It is easier to remove a seed before it becomes a poisonous root.
God spoke to Solomon, blessed Solomon, answered the prayers of Solomon, but everything was not right in the life of Solomon. God loves us. He is gracious to us. He answers our prayers and blesses us, BUT that is not the same as God's approval on everything in our lives. Examine your life and find the "little foxes that spoil the vineyard." Don't mistake the blessing of God for the approval of God.
Thank God that He can work out His own eternal purposes through fallen sinful people! Run from marrying yourself to anything that displeases God and causes your future downfall. Look for the "except" in your walk with God. If you find one foot off the path, "make straight paths for your feet."
For me to live is Christ.
