Suppose you say, "I don't believe the Bible."
That is easy to say, but are you willing to bet the life of your family to prove you are right and God is wrong?
900BC 1 Kings 16:34 A man name Hiel stands against God!
In his days [about 900BC] Hiel the Bethelite built Jericho; he laid its foundations with the loss of Abiram his firstborn, and set up its gates with the loss of his youngest son Segub, according to the word of the LORD, which He spoke by Joshua the son of Nun [about 1500BC].
Hiel bet against the Word of God. He grew up in a country that had rejected the Word of God. The country did not just reject the Bible; the country hated the Bible, and replaced the religion of the Bible with a religion that allowed immorality. God made the country swear by an oath 600 years before that they would not rebuild Jericho, a city that symbolized defiance against God. Six hundred years is a long time. Would God remember? Hiel remembered and set his face against the word of God to defy God! He bet the lives of two of his sons, that he was right and God was wrong.
1500BC Joshua 6:26 God puts Israel under an oath!
Then Joshua made them take an oath at that time, saying, "Cursed before the LORD is the man who rises up and builds this city Jericho; with the loss of his firstborn he shall lay its foundation, and with the loss of his youngest son he shall set up its gates."
God kept His word. Hiel lost, his sons lost, his country lost; but God won. Five hundred years or five thousand years will not make God forget or ignore what He has promised. God is eternal. What the eternal God says in time is not changed by any event in time. God always keeps His word.
This is either very good news for you or very bad news for you.
For me to live is Christ.
