2 Chronicles 21:7; King Jehoram was living in sin. God's promise kept the nation from destruction.
Yet the LORD was not willing to destroy the house of David because of the covenant which He had made with David, and since He had promised to give a lamp to him and his sons forever.
2 Chronicles 21:10; King Jehoram was living in sin. God did not destroy; He disciplined the nation.
So Edom revolted against Judah to this day. Then Libnah revolted at the same time against his rule, because he had forsaken the LORD God of his fathers.
Judah (Southern Israel) had a really bad king. His name was Jehoram. Jehoram led Judah deeply into sin, but God chose not to destroy Judah. It was not the military strength of Judah that kept them alive. It was not their intelligence that kept them alive. It was the promise of God that kept Judah from being destroyed and removed forever.
God did not destroy Judah, but He did discipline them. Israel was His son! He made their lives fall apart because of their sins. Everything in their nation was going wrong because of sin. The king, himself died a horrible and painful death, but the nation was not destroyed.
It took me 20 years to learn the lesson, "Sin makes your life fall apart." I blamed my parents when I was young. I blamed the army when I was older, until one Saturday morning a young man opened the Bible and showed me Romans 3:23. "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." He asked me, "Craig, do you know that you are a sinner?" A light turned on in my head. My problem was ME. My life was falling apart because I was sinning,
Be smarter than Craig! Learn lesson before you turn twenty: Sin makes your life fall apart. The lesson is true for Christians and non-Christians. God disciplines His children instead of destroying them, but the discipline of God can be very painful! Moses made Israel eat the golden calf. I imagine for the next two days passing bits and pieces of gold was not the most pleasant experience. All their partying, dancing and golden gods literally turned to poop! That's what sin does. In our verses today, King Jehoram was disciplined with loss of power and a painful disease.
God, of course, loves you and wants to destroy no one! He offers you His Son instead of destruction. His Son Jesus Christ took your destruction in his body on the cross. He paid for your sin to the very last penny, and then said, "It is finished!" Who in their right mind would want to continue in the behavior of sinning? No one in his right mind would want either the destruction or the discipline of God for sin. Turn from your sin to Christ. If you are a Christian, turn to Christ. He was disciplined for your sin with a scourge, and he was destroyed for your sin on the cross. He took your discipline and He took your destruction. Stop living your own life. If you are a non-Christian, turn to Christ. Get a life. Get eternal life!
No matter who you are there is only one answer for the sin that is tearing your life apart. The answer is Jesus Christ and His cross. Turn to him right now.
For me to live is Christ.
