Joash became king of Judah. Did Joash do right? Sort of…
2 Chronicles 24:2 Joash had a friend.
Joash did what was right in the sight of the LORD all the days of Jehoiada the priest.
Joash did right only when he had Jehoiada, a friend who did right. When he lost his friend he lost his walk with God. One person in a million can stand alone for God; the rest of us need to be surrounded by godly friends. I need people help, and you need people help, or we fail for God.
2 Chronicles 24:17-18 When his friend died, what happened?
But after the death of Jehoiada the officials of Judah came and bowed down to the king, and the king listened to them. They abandoned the house of the LORD, the God of their fathers, and served the Asherim and the idols; so wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem for this their guilt.
Is your closest friend telling you right things about God? Is your closest friend leading you away from God? Next to your time with God in His Word, the most important relationship in your life is godly friends.
He who walks with wise men will be wise,
But the companion of fools will suffer harm.
1 Corinthians 15:33
Do not be deceived:
"Bad company corrupts good morals."
Hebrews 10:24-25 Don't forsake Christian friendships! Plan them!
Let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.
Next to your time with God in His Word, the most important relationship in your life is godly friends. Sometimes you must make friends for God, and sometimes you must lose friends for God. But whatever we do, we must do all for God.
For me to live is Christ.
