They didn't even say, "Thank you"!
2 Chronicles 13:14
When Judah turned around, behold, they were attacked both front and rear;
so they CRIED TO THE LORD…
Then they CRIED OUT TO THE LORD in their trouble;
He delivered them out of their distresses.
He led them also by a straight way, To go to an inhabited city.
Let them give thanks to the LORD for His lovingkindness,
And for His wonders to the sons of men!
"His [King Abijah's] heart was not wholly devoted to the LORD his God (1 Kings 15:3)." The king and his men were not whole-hearted in their relationship to God, but God was whole-hearted in His relationship them!
Half-hearted children are still children. Jesus is Lord of the half-hearted son! Israel paid a price for their half-heartedness. They are without excuse. They should have said, "Thank you, God!" but there is no record of thanksgiving for God's kindness shown to King Abijah, only an escalation of pride.
How might thanksgiving have changed their relationship to God? Thank you, Lord Jesus, that you are 100% whole-hearted toward the very least child, me.
For me to live is Christ.
