2 Chronicles 26:15-16 Pride Destroys a Good King, Uzziah
"For he [Uzziah] was marvelously helped until he was STRONG.
But when he became STRONG,
his heart was so PROUD that he acted corruptly,
and he was unfaithful to the Lord his God…"
Psalm 131 Humility Preserves a Great King, David
"O LORD, my heart is not PROUD, nor my eyes haughty;
Nor do I involve myself in great matters,
Or in things too difficult for me.
Surely I have composed and quieted my soul;
Like a weaned child rests against his mother,
My soul is like a weaned child within me.
O Israel, hope in the LORD
From this time forth and forever."
What made David great was his humility. He had every reason to become proud, but he refused to be proud. He wanted the world to know that God was his greatness. David's attitude before God was, "Who am I?"
1 Chronicles 17:16
"Then David the king went in and sat before the LORD and said, 'Who am I, O LORD God, and what is my house that You have brought me this far?'"
King Uzziah forgot that God had made him great, and so he fell! Never forget Who makes you great, Who gives you strength, Who gives you brains, and Who loans you your next breath of air.
For me to live is Christ.
