Because Ahaz lived an unrestrained life, his country was unrestrained. When leaders live in careless disregard to the laws of God and the laws of their own country, the people of that country live unrestrained lives. The country goes out of control. The same thing happened during the short time Aaron allowed Israel to worship the golden calf. It is a pattern, and the same pattern of government is repeating itself in our own country.
2 Chronicles 28:19 Ahaz
For the LORD humbled Judah because of Ahaz king of Israel,
for he had brought about a lack of restraint in Judah
and was very unfaithful to the LORD.
Exodus 32:25 Aaron
Now when Moses saw that the people were out of control--
for Aaron had let them get out of control
to be a derision among their enemies.
Proverbs 29:18 The Pattern
Where there is no vision,
the people are unrestrained,
But happy is he who keeps the law.
2 Thessalonians 2:7-8 The Future
For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way. Then that lawless one will be revealed whom the Lord will slay with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the appearance of His coming.
Restraint is a good thing. God has given His people three restraints to keep us from out-of-control lives, His leaders, His Word and His Holy Spirit.
For me to live is Christ.
