2 Chronicles 11:15-16
[King Jeroboam] set up priests of his own for the high places, for the satyrs and for the calves which he had made. Those from all the tribes of Israel who set their hearts on seeking the LORD God of Israel followed them to Jerusalem, to sacrifice to the LORD God of their fathers.
The government created its own priesthood! Good citizens were asked to trade the worship of God for a religion. King Jeroboam gave Israel visible gods and colorful priests. People love religion. They love colorful robes and gods of gold, and elaborate ceremonies. To be good citizens, Israel had to accept this new religion. But the people who loved the invisible God and not religion left their homes and their properties, their love of country, and their wealth and went south to Jerusalem where the Bible was taught and obeyed.
Would you leave everything to have God and His Word? Would you leave religion to serve the invisible God? Right now are your serving God or religion?
====== note ==========
Some of the people in Jeroboam's day followed Jeroboam because they were ignorant of the Word of God. Some people knew God's Word and willfully accepted the new false religion. They chose falsehood. But what about the ignorant people? They also made a decision. They had chosen earlier in their lives to pay no attention to the Bible. They chose to be ignorant, so when the false religion came, they could not stand for God. Everyone makes a choice about the Bible. You can disobey God because of ignorance or you can disobey God willfully, but disobedience is disobedience.
Or you can read, trust and obey.
For me to live is Christ.
