Read this true story about a king who reacted instead of acted!
2 Chronicles 35:20-22
After all this, when Josiah had set the temple in order, Neco king of Egypt came up to make war at Carchemish on the Euphrates, and Josiah went out to engage him. But Neco sent messengers to him, saying, "What have we to do with each other, O King of Judah? I am not coming against you today but against the house with which I am at war, and God has ordered me to hurry. Stop for your own sake from interfering with God who is with me, so that He will not destroy you." However, Josiah would not turn away from him, but disguised himself in order to make war with him; nor did he listen to the WORDS OF NECO FROM THE MOUTH OF GOD, but came to make war on the plain of Megiddo.
Josiah saw what King Neco was doing and was unhappy. Josiah heard the words of King Neco and did not believe them. Josiah reacted to the actions and words of Neco, instead of bringing the problem before God.
If Josiah had taken the time to speak with God, he would have learned that Neco was actually doing what God wanted him to be doing and speaking the truth. Instead of acting in prayer and waiting, Josiah reacted to what his own eyes saw and his own ears heard and his own mind could understand. He failed to reach out to God and get an eternal perspective, so he rushed to battle.
Did you read that King Josiah also disguised himself? What does that tell you? It makes me suspect that in his heart Josiah knew he was doing wrong. Maybe he knew, maybe he just had a bad feeling about it, but he did not have the peace of God about his decision.
Don't be a Josiah! Don't react to the actions and words of others. Act only after waiting for the mind and peace of God.
For me to live is Christ.
