Job understood that even a guiltless man is guilty before God.
Though I am righteous, my mouth will condemn me;
Though I am guiltless, He will declare me guilty.
Job is saying, "I am right, but not right enough. Compared to God who isn't guilty?" Thousands of years later, John and Paul agree.
1 John 1:8
If we say that we have no sin,
we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us.
For all have sinned
and fall short of the glory of God
The righteousness of man is not righteous enough. Righteousness does not happen when we stop sinning, because there is always some sin in our behavior, in our attitudes, in the tone of our voice, in the look of our eyes, or in the careless neglect of some responsibility. Weaknesses and faults are indeed weaknesses and faults, but they are also sin because they lack the glory, beauty and perfections of God.
Only the righteousness of God makes a man or woman fit for heaven. Human righteousness is good. It keeps you out of jail, but is does not prepare you for heaven. Jesus Christ paid for your sin, and He offers you the gift of the righteousness of God. It is a better righteousness.
Dear friend, will you right now stop trying to save yourself and let God do what only God can do -- make you righteous? Receive Jesus Christ this very moment, and be right with God.
For me to live is Christ.
