Psalm 65 is a wonderful psalm describing God’s blessing on His people.
I think the greatest blessing is when God draws people near to Himself.
What a sweetness. What satisfaction.
How blessed is the one whom You choose and bring near to You
To dwell in Your courts.
We will be satisfied with the goodness of Your house,
Your holy temple.
Satisfied with Thee, Lord Jesus,
I am blest;
Peace which passeth understanding,
On Thy breast;
No more doubting, no more trembling,
Oh, what rest! Oh, what rest!
Occupied with Thee, Lord Jesus,
In Thy grace;
All Thy ways and tho’ts about me
Deeper stories of the glories
Of Thy grace, of Thy grace.
Taken up with Thee, Lord Jesus,
I would be;
Finding joy and satisfaction
All in Thee;
Thou the nearest and the dearest
Unto me, unto me.
List’ning for Thy shout, Lord Jesus,
In the air!
When Thy saints shall rise with joy to
Meet Thee there;
O what gladness! no more sadness,
Sin nor care, sin nor care.
The righteous man will be glad in the LORD and will take refuge in Him;
And all the upright in heart will glory.
The reason the upright is glorying in this psalm is because when he was helpless to do anything, God intervened of his behalf.
But God will shoot at them with an arrow;
Suddenly they will be wounded.
So they will make him stumble;
Their own tongue is against them;
All who see them will shake the head.
Then all men will fear,
And they will declare the work of God,
And will consider what He has done.
I’m considering what God does today.
He stands as a refuge for those who would run to Him.
And what a refuge!
If God be for us, who can be against us?
That makes my heart glad!
I love this psalm. This is my prayer too…
O God, You are my God;
I shall seek You earnestly;
My soul thirsts for You,
my flesh yearns for You,
In a dry and weary land where there is no water.
Thus I have seen You in the sanctuary,
To see Your power and Your glory.
Because Your lovingkindness is better than life,
My lips will praise You.
So I will bless You as long as I live;
I will lift up my hands in Your name.
My soul is satisfied as with marrow and fatness,
And my mouth offers praises with joyful lips.
When I remember You on my bed,
I meditate on You in the night watches,
For You have been my help,
And in the shadow of Your wings I sing for joy.
The shadow of Your wings
I shall seek you
My soul thirsts for You
My flesh yearns for You.
I have seen You in the sanctuary
My lips will praise You
I will bless You
I will lift up my hands in Your name
My soul is satisfied
My mouth offers praises with joyful lips
I remember You
I meditate on You
I sing for joy!
Yes! Yes! Yes!
My soul waits in silence for God ONLY;
From Him is my salvation.
He ONLY is my rock and my salvation,
My stronghold; I shall not be greatly shaken.
My soul, wait in silence for God ONLY,
For my hope is from Him.
He ONLY is my rock and my salvation,
My stronghold; I shall not be shaken.
This is so important. Other things or people may look like they can help but there is ONLY ONE who is a rock, a stronghold, a refuge. He is worthy of our trust.
Trust in Him at all times, O people;
Pour out your heart before Him;
God is a refuge for us. Selah
Hear my cry, O God; Give heed to my prayer.
From the end of the earth I call to You when my heart is faint;
Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
For You have been a refuge for me,
A tower of strength against the enemy.
Let me dwell in Your tent forever;
Let me take refuge in the shelter of Your wings.
David knows where to run when his heart is faint!
The Rock that is higher than him. God.
The Tower of Strength against the enemy.
The Shelter of His wings.
That sounds so compelling. I want to live there not just run there!
Thank You, Lord for intimacy with you.
Thank You for comforting the faint heart.
But as for me, I shall sing of Your strength;
Yes, I shall joyfully sing of Your lovingkindness in the morning,
For You have been my stronghold
And a refuge in the day of my distress.
O my strength, I will sing praises to You;
For God is my stronghold,
the God who shows me lovingkindness.
Psalm 59:16, 17
I’m singing today of these things I appreciate about my God.
My refuge in distress.
The God who shows me lovingkindness.
Do you indeed speak righteousness, O gods?
Do you judge uprightly, O sons of men?
No, in heart you work unrighteousness;
On earth you weigh out the violence of your hands.
The wicked are estranged from the womb;
These who speak lies go astray from birth.
This is the world in which we live.
Filled with unrighteousness. Violence. Lies.
But God will judge righteously one day.
Then we will say…
And men will say, "Surely there is a reward for the righteous;
Surely there is a God who judges on earth!"
It’s always good to have perspective.
It’s good to live for the future, not the present!
Shall not the judge of all the earth do right?
Be gracious to me, O God,
be gracious to me,
For my soul takes refuge in You;
And in the shadow of Your wings I will take refuge
Until destruction passes by.
I will cry to God Most High,
To God who accomplishes all things for me.
Psalm 57:1, 2
My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast;
I will sing, yes, I will sing praises!
I love that David begs God for grace. He knows that it is God who accomplishes all things for him. He has found his hiding place from destruction under God’s wings. The result? A steadfast heart and a song of praise! What a refuge!
Under His wings I am safely abiding,
Though the night deepens and tempests are wild,
Still I can trust Him; I know He will keep me,
He has redeemed me, and I am His child.
Under His wings, what a refuge in sorrow!
How the heart yearningly turns to His rest!
Often when earth has no balm for my healing,
There I find comfort, and there I am blessed.
Under His wings, oh, what precious enjoyment!
There will I hide till life’s trials are o’er;
Sheltered, protected, no evil can harm me,
Resting in Jesus, I’m safe evermore.
Under His wings, under His wings,
Who from His love can sever?
Under His wings my soul shall abide,
Safely abide forever.
When I am afraid, I will put my trust in You.
In God, whose word I praise,
In God I have put my trust;
I shall not be afraid.
What can mere man do to me?
You have taken account of my wanderings;
Put my tears in Your bottle.
Are they not in Your book?
Then my enemies will turn back in the day when I call;
This I know, that God is for me.
In God, whose word I praise,
In the LORD, whose word I praise,
In God I have put my trust, I shall not be afraid.
What can man do to me?
Your vows are binding upon me, O God;
I will render thank offerings to You.
What should I do when I am afraid?
Tucked right in the middle of not being afraid and trusting in the Lord is:
“This I know that God is for me.”
Now that's the God I can trust! It reminds me of Romans 8.
What then shall we say to these things?
If God is for us, who is against us?
He who did not spare His own Son,
but delivered Him over for us all,
how will He not also with Him freely give us all things?
Who will separate us from the love of Christ?
Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
Just as it is written,
"FOR YOUR SAKE WE ARE BEING PUT TO DEATH ALL DAY LONG;
WE WERE CONSIDERED AS SHEEP TO BE SLAUGHTERED."
But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer
through Him who loved us.
For I am convinced that neither
death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities,
nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers,
nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing,
will be able to separate us from the love of God,
which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Behold, God is my helper;
The Lord is the sustainer of my soul.
Oh man, I love this verse and the truth of it! David had troubles and this was his testimony. Me too! Me too! Imagine the Living True God, the helper and sustainer or your soul. Another cause for praise… oh wait, that’s what he says…
Willingly I will sacrifice to You;
I will give thanks to Your name, O LORD, for it is good.
I am a thankful girl because He is my helper. He is the sustainer of my soul!
Bless the Lord O my soul!
More than anything I would like to encourage you in your walk with God!
