But you, beloved,
building yourselves up on your most holy faith,
praying in the Holy Spirit,
keep yourselves in the love of God,
waiting anxiously for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life.
And have mercy on some, who are doubting;
save others, snatching them out of the fire; and on some have mercy with fear, hating even the garment polluted by the flesh.
Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to make you stand in the presence of His glory blameless with great joy,
to the only God our Savior,
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
be glory, majesty, dominion and authority,
before all time and now and forever.
I noticed great joy in the reading today. (Yesterday was joy filled too.)
But before we can get to the great joy, we have instructions for today.
Keep yourself in God’s love! How? Notice the “ing” words.
Building yourself up in your faith… that means reading your Bible and obeying!
Exercise your faith!
Praying in the Holy Spirit… praying!
Waiting anxiously…Jesus is coming! This is our hope!
God keeps you! He is able.
He will make you stand blameless in His presence.
With GREAT JOY!
Wonderful. Amazing. All because of Jesus.
God keeps you.
You will stand with Great JOY!
I have no greater joy than this,
to hear of my children walking in the truth.
3 John 1:4
This is so true! It’s a joy to see people saved from their sin, but what a joy to see them going on for God! Joy Joy JOY!
His commandments are not burdensome.
I John 5:3
I think about this verse every once in awhile when it seems that His commandments are burdensome. I love this explanation.
When John says that His commandments are not burdensome, he does not mean that they are not difficult, but rather that they are the very things which born again people love to do. When you tell a mother to take good care of her baby, you are only telling her what she loves to do. The commandments of the Lord are the things which are best for us, and the things in which our new nature takes a wholehearted delight.
Well now! Today I’m going about obeying the Lord because it’s the best thing for me to do and because I love Him.
In this is love, not that we loved God,
but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
1 John 4:10
Today I’m thankful that God loved me and gave His Son for me.
It wasn’t that I loved Him. It wasn’t because of anything in me.
This is marvelous, amazing love!
Jesus died and satisfied God about my sin.
Now that is a cause for abounding thanksgiving!
Bless the Lord, Oh my soul!
Have a thankful day!
See how great a love the Father has bestowed on us,
that we would be called children of God;
and such we are.
For this reason the world does not know us,
because it did not know Him.
Beloved, now we are children of God,
and it has not appeared as yet what we will be.
We know that when He appears,
we will be like Him,
because we will see Him just as He is.
And everyone who has this hope fixed on Him purifies himself,
just as He is pure.
1 John 3:1-3
This is a great cause for thanksgiving!
I’m thankful for…
The great love of the Father.
That we would be called children of God.
We will be like Him.
We will see Him just as He is.
My little children,
I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin.
And if anyone sins,
we have an Advocate with the Father,
Jesus Christ the righteous;
1 John 2:1
I have an Advocate in heaven!
An advocate is someone who steps up and supports another persons cause. I was an advocate for my mom in her old age when she couldn’t stand up for herself. We are advocates for friends from a foreign country who don’t know what to do in our country in many situations. We stand up for them. Oh, how I wish in so many situations in life I had someone standing, supporting, and pleading my cause. Wait, I do!
This verse says Jesus is my Advocate with the Father when I sin. Jesus pleads my case. My case is that I have offended God because of my sin. But because of Jesus blood I am forgiven. God is still my Father. God looks on Jesus and pardons me. A thousand thanksgivings!
Before the throne of God above
I have a strong, a perfect plea;
a great High Priest, whose name is Love,
who ever lives and pleads for me.
My name is graven on his hands,
my name is written on his heart;
I know that while in heaven he stands
no tongue can bid me thence depart,
no tongue can bid me thence depart.
When Satan tempts me to despair
and tells me of the guilt within,
upward I look, and see him there
who made an end of all my sin.
Because the sinless Savior died,
my sinful soul is counted free;
for God the Just is satisfied
to look on him and pardon me,
to look on him and pardon me.
Behold him there! the risen Lamb,
my perfect, spotless righteousness;
the great unchangeable "I AM,"
the King of glory and of grace!
One with himself, I cannot die,
my soul is purchased by his blood;
my life is hid with Christ on high,
with Christ my Savior and my God,
with Christ my Savior and my God.
This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you,
that God is Light,
and in Him there is no darkness at all.
If we say that we have fellowship with Him
and yet walk in the darkness,
we lie and do not practice the truth;
but if we walk in the Light
as He Himself is in the Light,
we have fellowship with one another,
and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.
1 John 1:5-7
God is light. I love this about God. There are no secret dark hiding places in Him. He is absolutely holy. This verse came to mind as I was meditating on this today.
And there is no creature hidden from His sight,
but all things are open and laid bare
to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do.
Today is a good day to walk in the light as He is in the light!
Today is a good day to bring my sin out into the light, confess it and forsake it.
The blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin!
The Lord is not slow about His promise,
as some count slowness,
but is patient toward you,
not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.
But the day of the Lord will come like a thief,
in which the heavens will pass away with a roar
and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat,
and the earth and its works will be burned up.
Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way,
what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness,
looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God,
because of which the heavens will be destroyed by burning,
and the elements will melt with intense heat!
But according to His promise
we are looking for new heavens and a new earth,
in which righteousness dwells.
2 Peter 3:9-13
God is working out His plan in history! He is patient, not wanting people to perish. You have an opportunity now to be saved. But He will bring this creation to an end and there will be a new heaven and a new earth in which righteousness is at home. That is hard to imagine! In the meantime, what do we do? Live holy and godly lives. Live with eternity's values in view. Look up! Jesus is coming again!
With eternity's values in view, Lord.
With eternity's values in view;
May I do each day's work for Jesus
With eternity's values in view.
Grace and peace be multiplied to you
in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord;
seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything
pertaining to life and godliness,
through the true knowledge of Him who called us
by His own glory and excellence.
For by these He has granted to us
His precious and magnificent promises,
so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature,
having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust.
2 Peter 1:2-4
What do you need so that you will lead a life for God?
God has given everything we need! Did you read that? Isn’t this wonderful!
And the above multiplied!
Precious and magnificent promises...
Partakers of the divine nature...
and so much more...
Today I’m rejoicing in our wonderful faith…the same kind as Paul! (verse 1)
After you have suffered for a little while,
the God of all grace,
who called you to His eternal glory in Christ,
1 Peter 5:10
I love this verse! What do we learn here?
Our sufferings, which at times seem so great, are only for a little while.
God has grace for the sufferer. Not some grace. Not a little grace. All grace!
God has called us to eternal glory in Christ! We suffer now, there is glory later.
At the glory time He Himself will complete this amazing work of salvation.
He Himself will perfect us. Complete us, repair us, mend us, restore us.
He Himself will confirm us. Set you fast. Support you all around.
He Himself will strengthen us. Give you that vigor we lack now.
He Himself will establish us. Give you a foundation that can never be moved.
Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful! What a Savior! What a salvation!
More than anything I would like to encourage you in your walk with God!
