The heart of her husband trusts in her, And he will have no lack of gain.
She does him good and not evil all the days of her life.
Strength and dignity are her clothing, And she smiles at the future.
She opens her mouth in wisdom, And the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.
She looks well to the ways of her household, And does not eat the bread of idleness.
Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain,
But a woman who fears the LORD, she shall be praised.
Give her the product of her hands, And let her works praise her in the gates.
This is the woman I want to be! And I want to hang out with women like this!
Two things I asked of You,
Do not refuse me before I die:
Keep deception and lies far from me,
Give me neither poverty nor riches;
Feed me with the food that is my portion,
That I not be full and deny You and say, "Who is the LORD?"
Or that I not be in want and steal, And profane the name of my God.
I love this prayer.
First he wanted his spiritual life to be true. No deception or lies. In fact, he wanted to live far away from that kind of life. Me too!
Second, he wanted neither poverty, because that would tempt him to steal, or riches, because that would tempt him to not need God.
I love it! It reminded me of these verses today.
'And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
"Keep watching and praying that you may not enter into temptation;
the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak."
When He arrived at the place, He said to them,
"Pray that you may not enter into temptation."
What a great prayer for the day. For life!
An arrogant man stirs up strife,
But he who trusts in the LORD will prosper.
He who trusts in his own heart is a fool,
But he who walks wisely will be delivered.
This jumped out at me today. Trust in the Lord and you prosper. Trust in your own heart and you are a fool. Hmmmm. Let me think. Do I want to prosper or be a fool? I better say no to my own heart, my own ideas, my own way and seek the Lord!
Trust in the LORD with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make your paths straight .
Do not boast about tomorrow,
For you do not know what a day may bring forth.
We don’t know about tomorrow. We plan but God knows. So we plan, Lord willing.
Come now, you who say,
"Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city,
and spend a year there and engage in business and make a profit."
Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow.
You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away.
Instead, you ought to say,
"If the Lord wills, we will live and also do this or that."
Many things about tomorrow
I don't seem to understand
But I know who holds tomorrow
And I know who holds my hand.
Like a city that is broken into and without walls
Is a man who has no control over his spirit.
This is not a pretty picture. When I don’t control my spirit, I’m like an undefended city. I’m open to attack and temptation. This is so true and a great and sobering reminder. Today the assignment is, control yourself, Nancy. Would you like to join me?
By wisdom a house is built,
And by understanding it is established;
And by knowledge the rooms are filled
With all precious and pleasant riches.
God gave Craig and me this verse before we were married. It is our verse. Since we are in the rebuilding process of our new house this was a lovely reminder today. To fill a home with precious and pleasant things, one needs wisdom from God. Fellowship with God and seeking God make a home flourish. That’s what we want. A home in which Christ is honored. A home that is a refuge for all who enter. Those are the most precious and pleasant riches. A home that glorifies God! May it be so in our lives.
Do not move the ancient boundary
Or go into the fields of the fatherless,
For their Redeemer is strong;
He will plead their case against you.
I was thinking of this verse yesterday because we found the property line of our new house. It is a rock, but it can be picked up and moved. Hmmmm…. that’s not good!
One of the ancient truths that can’t be moved is that God cares for orphans and widows and refugees. Even greater than caring, He is their defender. God is opposed to those who mistreat them. I think it’s wonderful that we can side with God and protect and care for the people He cares for.
Where do we find the ancient boundaries?
In the Word of God. It can't be moved! Hallelujah!
What’s more important? Money or good character?
A good name is to be more desired than great wealth,
Favor is better than silver and gold.
Character! The call today is to be the person God wants you to be.
Do the right thing. Be a blessing.
There is no wisdom and no understanding
And no counsel against the LORD.
I love this verse! The Lord is God! Man can counsel and scheme against Him,
He just laughs.
The kings of the earth take their stand
And the rulers take counsel together
Against the LORD and against His Anointed, saying,
"Let us tear their fetters apart
And cast away their cords from us!"
He who sits in the heavens laughs,
The Lord scoffs at them.
Then He will speak to them in His anger
And terrify them in His fury, saying,
"But as for Me, I have installed My King Upon Zion, My holy mountain."
I’m rejoicing today because He reigns! He is God!
Who can say, "I have cleansed my heart, I am pure from my sin"?
The answer is no one! Only the blood of Jesus can cleanse a person from sin.
Precious, precious blood of Jesus,
Shed on Calvary;
Shed for rebels, shed for sinners,
Shed for me.
More than anything I would like to encourage you in your walk with God!
